Our first starfish pack distribution day this summer was a huge success!![]()

With the help of amazing volunteers, donors, and staff we had 373 children pick up healthy and nutritious food for the next two weeks.![]()

We currently have 475 children registered to pick up food on July 24th and need YOUR help to ensure they can focus on fun, without worrying about food this summer.![]()

Friday was a bittersweet day as we celebrated Ali's last day here at our food bank!![]()
![]()
Ali started with us in June of 2022 as our Satellite and Food Sourcing Coordinator, where she supported, maintained and coordinated over a dozen neighbourhood and program satellite locations, while also working with a variety of community groups with the goal of expanding the program. ![]()
![]()
She also sourced and obtained pricing for all of the food bank's programs, communicating with vendors, suppliers, and grocers, to keep costs down, while also sourcing quality and nutritious food. ![]()

Ali also took on a variety of other tasks when needed, including stepping up as the Interim Volunteer Coordinator for 4 months.![]()
![]()
Ali is hardworking, organized, consistent, reliable, resourceful, and always willing to step in when someone needs help. We will miss having her as a member of our team! ![]()

Ali is staying in the non-profit world, moving into an exciting position where she will be supporting youths that are in foster care, with the goal of reunification. ![]()

We are so grateful to Food Banks Canada, for awarding our food bank with funds through an Access Grant!![]()

With these funds, our food bank was able to purchase culturally preferred foods for ![]()
π1,320 individuals accessing halal and Middle Eastern foods![]()
π 282 individuals accessing South Asian foods![]()
π67 individuals accessing Ukrainian foods. ![]()

We were able to purchase items including basmati rice, moong wash lentils, red split lentils, light kidney beans, dry chickpeas, red chili powder, turmeric, cumin, canola oil, flour, halal chicken, besan, desi style flour, sour cream, buckwheat, and sugar.![]()

The Starfish Pack program supports 741 students across 42 schools in Abbotsford, with over 100 volunteers and one staff member working tirelessly to purchase, sort, and deliver food packs containing two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, and snacks to students each week.![]()
